Following the popularity of TV program ‘Ladette to Lady’ and the resurgence for etiquette and finishing classes, Brisbane’s Rockmount House, training centre for Jump the Q has become affectionately known as the Australian ‘ Egglestone Hall ‘.
Enquiries on how to ‘be a lady’ have staggered the small but exclusive Executive Finishing School. General Manager, Rachel Quilty, notes ‘We encourage woman to recognize some habits while glamorized in the magazines, often are the reflection of an individual’s sense of self worth.’
Image consultant and Etiquette Coach, Ms Quilty says, ’It is understandable why the word ‘ladette’s’ exists. In today’s society very little value is placed on decorum, manners and lady- like behavior. ‘ Further she adds, ‘These activities don’t make for popular press – no knickers, DIY sex tapes, infamous wardrobe malfunctions and general un- lady like behaviour is likely to make you an instant house hold name, capture that elusive 15 minutes of fame and a possible intrude role in Big Brother.’
The program ’ Ladette to Lady’ , is very confronting. It’s an education if you didn’t know young ladies acted that way and if you can identify with some of the ladette’s activities suddenly you see how unattractive your behavior maybe perceived.
